About the Offshore Racing Association

Established in 2004 as a non-profit organization registered in Rhode Island, the Offshore Racing Association has a mission to promote the sport’s enjoyment for boat owners and sailors by improving current rating rules, both in their content and administrative processes and to make provisions for new high performance boats to compete in more events.

The Offshore Racing Association is the owner, developer, and manager of the Offshore Racing Rule family of rating rules. It functions as a full-service offshore sailing center with an executive director, a technical director, and a technical team operating nationally. With members throughout the Americas, the ORA works directly with organizing authorities and race committees of sailing events, and helps individual competitors with technical questions, as well.

ORA business policy is set by the Board of Directors. Operations for both the ORR and ORR-Ez rules rely on regional representatives working to facilitate customer user experience with organizing authorities and race committees throughout the Americas. The ORA Technical Advisory Committee, a group of volunteer professionals from across the country, advises the technical team.
